What types of Clients use Graphite?
Graphite is primarily designed for private equity firms, professional services firms and large enterprises who are in need of on-demand, affordable business expertise.
What kinds of Experts join the Graphite network? How do you vet them?
Experts are granted access to Graphite only after we have carefully screened and evaluated their Expert work experience and education. This ensures that only the most qualified Experts can apply to our projects. Approximately 1 out of 10 applications are accepted.
Graphite Experts typically average 10+ years of work experience and possess deep functional, industry, or geographic expertise. Thousands of our Experts have an MBA from a Top 10 US Business School and hundreds have Big 3 consulting experience. Furthermore, we collect feedback from Clients on every project and display the feedback on Expert profiles, allowing Clients to see exactly how Experts have performed on past projects. Graphite Experts consistently perform to the highest standard and deliver great outcomes with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars. Experts who do not meet our quality standards on their first few projects are immediately removed from the network.
Can I browse the network of Experts?
Once you post a project, you can browse a subset of our Experts and invite them to apply to your project. Note that only 20% of our network have public profiles. Your account manager will work with you to tap into the entire network and deliver relevant Experts for your project need.
What should I expect after posting my project?
Once you post your project, our matching algorithms and account managers will begin soliciting interest for your project from our Experts, who will begin applying within a few hours.
You can compare Experts by pay rate, experience, education, and Graphite ratings from prior projects. Use our Schedule a Call feature to set up interviews with candidates of interest - we recommend reaching out to candidates quickly to secure their availability for the coming weeks/months.
When ready, officially hire the Expert of your choice via your Candidate List to kick things off!
Once I post a project, how long does it take to receive applicants?
Graphite is intended to provide you with talent on demand. You will begin receiving applicants within a few hours. To attract candidates even more quickly, browse the talent pool and invite candidates to your role.
How do I officially launch a project on Graphite?
To hire an expert on the platform, go to your applicant list and select “Hire” next to the Expert's name - and confirm the pay rate and project scope. Make sure you select the Expert on the platform before commencing any work.
Can I hire more than one Expert for a project?
Absolutely. When you hire your first Expert for the project, simply check the box to leave the project open. Once you’ve successfully hired the first Expert, go back to your Applicant List to hire more Experts.
Should I have the Expert sign a Non-Disclosure agreement before getting started on a project?
Graphite's Terms of Use includes a base level of confidentiality, but you are free to sign an NDA for any Graphite project.
What payment methods does Graphite support?
Graphite has a secure payment processing system (powered by Stripe) built into our platform. We accept bank-to-bank ACH payments as well as all major credit cards.
For larger companies with more complicated AP processes, we can also accept wire transfers and checks. Please email help@graphite.com and we will work with you to determine an appropriate payment solution for your company.
How are payments and invoices handled? How often should I expect to pay my Expert?
Graphite handles payment processing on behalf of our Experts - all payments for Graphite projects must be made to Graphite. You can pay via the graphite.com platform using ACH or Credit Card, or you can send Graphite a wire transfer or check.
Graphite invoices are automatically generated for billable time worked by Experts and sent to project billing contacts at regular intervals (typically bi-weekly). Standard payment terms for Graphite invoices are 10 days.
Can I pay my Expert directly?
No. Graphite's business model depends on us retaining a portion of the fee paid to Experts, and this fee helps us introduce you to high-quality Experts on demand. Bypassing the Graphite platform is a serious violation of our Terms of Use and would result in legal action and termination of your account.
What if a project takes more or less time than initially planned?
The terms (including the duration) are meant to be indicative and are not binding. If a project is completed before the expected end date, please pay all outstanding invoices and be sure to review and close out the project.
If a project extends beyond the posted duration, your Expert will still be able to log all of their hours and send invoices for billable time through the platform on an ongoing basis.
What happens if something goes wrong during the project or I am not satisfied with the work?
We are proud that this almost never happens, but Client satisfaction is very important to us. If you are unsatisfied for any reason, please reach out to us right away at help@graphite.com and we will work quickly to resolve the situation.
Are Clients required to issue a 1099 for their Experts?
No, Clients are not required to issue a 1099 to the Expert. When independent contractors are paid through an exchange such as Graphite, a Form 1099-K is required if the exchange processes over 200 transactions and over $20,000 to an individual contractor in a given calendar year. Graphite takes care of this Form 1099-K reporting requirement.
Are Clients required to issue a 1099 to Graphite?
No. Because Graphite is a corporation, you are not required to issue a 1099-MISC to us. If you need a copy of our W-9, please email your account manager or email us at help@graphite.com.
I want to hire my Graphite Expert for a full-time role. What do I do?
On a case-by-case basis, Graphite will assist you in converting your Expert to a full-time employee. Typical fees are 20% of first-year salary. For more information on this, please contact your account manager or email help@graphite.com.
